Being 30 and set. For the rest of your life.

Borked up experience today. Provided a laptop for a person, who has more than enough money, but is unwilling to actually spend it on things she needs. As there was a genuine fire hazard (using 15+ old CRT monitor), I was willing to give my laptop as it has no use to me or my closest family anymore.

So, you know the drill. You take out your laptop, you clean it, then wipe disk and install the OS you have access to. As I didn’t want to shell out 120EUR for Win10, I installed Ubuntu. After all, the machine is going to be used for surfing and occasional document writing. For this, Ubuntu with Open/LibreOffice fits the bill.

Imagine my surprise, when the recipient of the laptop specified, the laptop is useless as she does not understand anything. And, of course, after some hand waiving, saying, that this is too much to learn and to grasp.

SHE’S 30!!! 30!!! I don’t know how she will have a boyfriend. A husband. A child. How she will adapt to the new type of cars, or maybe job. I don’t understand being so thick, just because it is technology, which requires a little adaptation.

Tricking your mind to support a healthy body

Funny, how eating and consequentially, eating well and having a healthy body, is not something that comes natural to us. If you are blessed with a good metabolism, you needn’t care. If you are not, you need to watch every drop of food that goes into your mouth, which is, to put it mildly, cumbersome and requires discipline and huge amounts of will. Let’s face it, will is finite, and if you spend it on simple tasks, like food watching, it will present a problem elsewhere. Of course, it goes in the other direction too. When difficult times present themselves in your life, you will have spent your finite amount of will on it, relaxing all your restrictions on the diet. You can imagine what this does to your body. What to do about it?
Outsource the worry, bean counting and the verdict on the quality of your eating to the external authority! Using a tool for that, that you can have on your mobile, can be, with very little willpower, automatic. The verdicts come automatically too, all you have to do, is obey them.

It works.

Days with no focus

Having the FOCUS on my agenda each and every day, it sometimes gets really hard to actually do it. I am getting good at it, but in the end – some days quite simply aren’t cut for this.

This fact comes really hard to me. These days feel like lost hours. I get nervous for it, which again decreases focus, entering the vicious circle.

Usually, there is no chance to go and run and clear my mind.

Being exposed to other people.

Being in a bubble of the same people, of the same personnel, same ideas makes you “a bubble boy”. Not in the Seinfeld sense, but much, much worse. You stagnate, as you are (practically) standing still. So, to move forward, you need to be exposed to different people, different ideas, mindset, even assumptions. This will make you better in your primary expertise.

Doing good

When you see childish happines in 80yrs old, when you change their old tv for a big lcd and when you see the same happines in 70yrs old, when you ditch the old wired phone for a wireless one, you realize one thing. There is way to little moments like this in your life. Way to little.
